SWEET & SOUR
St. Patty's day is just around the corner and while I'm not Irish, I love a nice cocktail on a warm spring day so dove into a good book to find some great drink recipes! My Mom recently sent me a copy of Speakeasy, a bar book featuring, as the authors describe, "classic cocktails re-imagined." This hot bar book not only features recipes but cool facts about the history of drinks like the Gimlet, Whiskey sour, the Bellini and the Millionaire's Cocktail (featuring an egg white!!). The "Jameson Whiskey Sour" sounded delicious and a perfect way to celebrate St. Patricks Day.
START SIMPLE: many of the cocktails in this book and others require the addition of simple syrup to make the drink pop with yumm! It's incredibly easy to make and you can store it in your refrigerator for several days for future use (a great reason to keep old mason jars handy). To make simple syrup, place one cup of sugar and one cup of water in a pot and bring to a boil over medium heat. When the sugar dissolves completely, let cool and add to the drink.
A TOTALLY SWEET WHISKEY SOUR:
1 1/2 ounces of Jameson Irish Whiskey
1 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 oz simple syrup
1 1/4 ounces pureed frozen peaches
ice cubes
peach to garnish
Shake the above ingredients in a cocktail shaker and garnish with peach. Cheers!!
