PEEK-A-BOO
Designing a kitchen can be a daunting exercise and delicate dance with patience and frustration. Cabinets, countertops, backsplash, appliances, lighting, island vs. peninsula...there are many factors that go into creating a space you will use and love for years. I like to start with one simple question...how do you use a kitchen, and more importantly, WHAT do you use? Are you a baker? Or are you an order-in chef? What ever way you use your space, it's important to look at the actual THINGS that you will put in it and where you plan on storing it. A pantry can be a major asset, but not everyone has the space. In the example above, I was able to steal away space from a large garage on the opposite side of the kitchen. By doing this, I created a large, walk-in pantry where the owners are able to store large appliances, food, back stock product etc. To add an interesting design element, I used a cabinet door as the entry door so it blended with the kitchen design and creates an interesting talking point.
