BEHIND DOOR #3
I've been around the design block several times and I've seen all kinds of things, but still am shocked by what people do behind closed doors, especially in the bedroom! Yesterday, for example, a lovely woman from Ohio emailed me (we'll call her Lora) asking where she could find a water bed...well, Lora, check the year 1982! Just like Ronald Reagan, neon colored jelly sandals, LA Gear and Strawberry Shortcake scented dolls, their time has come and gone! But don't fret, Lora, there are ways to spruce up your boudoir without throwing money out the window. I've seen people place them in the middle of the room, in front of windows, angled in a corner and stuffed into closets, but what about placing your bed in front of a door? How about three doors? To get more bang for your buck in the bedroom, build a strong headboard!
KNOCK, KNOCK..
What's the easiest, least expensive way to jazz things up in the bedroom (without paint or viagra)? A headboard, and if you follow these simple tips you'll walk through your bedroom door and fall in love again. I headed to the Home Depot and purchased three 30"x50" pine doors, 1x4's molding. When I got home I placed the three doors on the floor, screwed them together by placing 1x4's at the top, middle and bottom (attaching with finishing screws), added molding to the top (had the Home depot cut a piece to fit the top so I wouldn't have to saw at home) and attached it to the wall behind a king size bed. Quicker than you can say "Let's Make a Deal" I turned a clients sad frown of a room upside down!
TIME TO COMPLETE TASK: Three hours
COST: Three 30"x80" Pine doors at the Home Depot: $62.95
STRESS LEVEL: Sleeping well knowing I saved money: LOW
