FREEDOM OF CHOICE

The United States was founded on the principles of individual liberty, personal privacy, and equality. Such principles ensure that each individual is free to make the most intimate decisions free from governmental interference and discrimination. Afraid she'd make the wrong choice, Mary from Kansas emailed me the photo below in desperation. She's made the difficult decision to bring about change in her private bathroom but isn't sure where to turn. Like many who read this blog, she's looking for inexpensive, creative ways of solving her problems. So, Mary...here are a few suggestions. You make the choice and let me know how it turns out!
FREEDOM TO EXPLORE OPTIONS:
I actually LOVE the tile in Mary's bathroom and think she can play off of that by making subtle changes to bring about real change. Here are a few suggestions:
1.) Remove the Wallpaper and paint the walls stark white or a deep blue (don't mimic the tones in the tile as you want the tile to pop not hide). Use semi-gloss paint, most likely one gallon $18.99.
2.) Remove the medicine cabinet/mirror and replace with a more interesting mirror. If your medicine cabinet is a single unit, remove it, paint the wall behind and purchase a mirror (Home Goods has great, inexpensive solutions) then go to the home depot and purchase hinges (approx. $3.99/bag) and attach to the back of the mirror and hang on wall to create your own, unique medicine cabinet.
3.) New hardware and towels can spruce up this space too! Thomas OBrien has a huge sale going on now at Target!
4.) Add a new light fixture above the mirror. Lowes has a great selection and an easy how-to free instruction manual near the lighting section.
TIME TO COMPLETE TASK: One Weekend
COST: Paint $18.99 gallon, new fixtures at the Home Depot (approx) $20.00, new mirror $25
STRESS LEVEL: Making the right choice: LOW
