BRIGHT (ER) IDEAS

There's a lot more that goes into creating a comfortable home, far beyond choosing the right paint colors and buying the right furniture. In todays tech-savvy world you don't even have to wipe your own tush (if you don't mind spending up to $8,000 on a toilet, that is). From smart door locks to cameras hidden in fake bricks, doormats that talk to you, shower heads that play your favorite songs and lightbulbs that change colors according to your mood, forget that toss pillow, you need the app that controls your dishwasher! Or do you? Call me crazy but many day's I'd like to go back to a pager and rotary dial phone. I digress. Kitchens and baths tend to be spaces where outlets are either ill-placed or simply not plentiful, so enter the pop-out outlet. Not only is it a streamlined look (versions can be placed on top of counters so when not in use they hide away nicely, and when you pull out that mixer they're at the ready). What I love most about these is that one pop-out has four outlets. Place one in a bathroom to accommodate razors, hair dryers, curling irons, etc. then push them right into hiding when not in use. While some ideas seem cool but fall flat (like the lightbulbs I blogged about a few weeks ago and have since thrown out bc they stopped working remotely) these flat sockets are just the pop any room needs!
