FOR THE OLD FASHIONED MAD MAN IN YOUR FAMILY

With Father's Day speeding towards us this Sunday, it seems only appropriate to mix up something special for dear old dad, don't you think?  He put up with you for years, so why not let him get a little tipsy so he can forget the pain and suffering he endured, if even for just a few minutes! It's interesting how many "old fashioned cocktails" have seen a resurgence, thanks in part to popular television shows like Mad Men where the star, Don Draper, often mixes one up long before noon.  Referred to as a "retro cocktail," this old fashioned recipe is a classic any time of year!  While the original (first printed in 1806 in a Hudson, NY newspaper) required "a stimulating liquor, spirits of any kind, sugar, water, and bitters" this one calls for top shelf bourbon to make it extra special!  Get ready to shake, rattle and roll as you celebrate the mad man in your life! If your father is no longer with us, mix one up for yourself and raise a glass high in the sky for your number one guy!
THE OLD FASHIONED WAY:
2 Sugar cubes (1 teaspoon)
4 dashes angostura bitters
1 teaspoon water
2 oz Bourbon
Orange peel
Stir like a mad man until the sugar, water and bitter combination has totally dissolved the sugar.  Add bourbon, ice cubes, orange peel and a loving toast to dad!
QUICK TIP: A simpler substitute to the sugar, bitters and water combination is SIMPLE SYRUP I showed you how to make last month!  No matter how you stir it up, just make sure to take a moment this weekend to celebrate the man who helped make YOU happen!
