HAPPY GLOWOWEEN

This week will mark the official end of summer. If you live in LA the only colors that change this time of year are the fashions worn by those that zip and bobble down Santa Monica boulevard in drop top sports cars. On the east coast we're preparing for the chill of fall by raking leaves, stacking wood and dusting off our turtle necks and down jackets. This is, gloves down, my favorite time of the year. With Halloween right around the corner, the tackyorator (tacky decorator) in me searches for fun, quirky holiday items. It tis, after all, the season (S) to be tacky. One thing I stumbled upon in an over-crowded store a few weeks ago was glow in the dark paint, and my creative juices began to flow. Because it goes on clear, you can have a lot of fun with this interesting material. One bright idea I had (nothing to do with Halloween) to help see the light at the end of a dark tunnel (or hallway) is to paint the baseboards leading to a bathroom. If you have children or live with elderly parents, this will provide a bright, lit pathway on dark nights. For Halloween, make your pumpkin shine brighter than any of your neighbors by painting them with glow in the dark paint. Add a unique message by painting it on a sign, a pumpkin or sheet and display on your front porch, only to be seen in the dark of night!
TIME TO COMPLETE TASK: Thirty minutes to paint baseboards, ten to paint a pumpkin
COST: Rust-O-Leum sells a two pack of glow paint at Home Depot for $15.97
STRESS LEVEL: Bright ideas for little money: LOW
