PUPPY RUG

Our puppies, like many..(and like children, I imagine)...love to be EVERYWHERE we are, every minute of every day. It's precious, yes, but in the middle of a renovation it can sometimes get a little tense. Last weekend, for example, we decided to attack the refacing of our kitchen cabinets in the middle of a rainstorm. Joe set up the saw in the garage and darted back and forth with pieces of trim, whilst being drenched by a Southern California winter downpour. In the middle of this sat our dogs on two of their favorite things...puppy rugs we made a few months ago. We spend a lot of time in our kitchen and with the floors still in need of our attention (they are #347 on the "TO DO" list) the puppies needed something a little more comfortable than our hip, trendy plywood "transition floors" to rest on. So, faced with tossing out a rug too large for our cozy living room, I made two 2x4 rugs for the dogs. They're comfortable, chic and easy to clean (small enough to toss in the washer after muddy puppies come in from the rain). Here's what I did:

1.) Purchased rug on sale. Lost receipt. Had to keep rug too large for living room. Oops!
2.) Took Joe's good kitchen scissors (not intended for cutting rugs) and created two, small, comfy puppy rugs.
TIME TO COMPLETE PROJECT: 15 minutes
COST: $45 rug. $7 for new pair of kitchen scissors
STRESS LEVEL: if the dogs are happy, so are we!
